Deltaport Terminal Road & Rail Improvement

Delta, BC

Design and construction of railway overpass, approaches and utility relocation for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority

The Deltaport Terminal Road and Rail Improvement Project was a design-build project, constructed in partnership with Dragados Canada Inc. The new causeway overpass separates road and rail traffic, improving the flow of container trucks and trains accessing the terminal, reduces truck and vehicle idling, increases safety and contributes additional capacity annually to Deltaport Terminal operations.

During construction, the joint venture collaborated closely with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and several First Nations including Tsawwassen First Nation, Musqueam Indian Band, Katzie First Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and Semiahmoo First Nation. Detailed and measurable engagement strategies were developed to ensure First Nations inclusion in economic benefits associated with project construction.

The joint venture assigned a First Nations Manager to work as liaison with representatives of each Indigenous community and share employment, training, and contract opportunities. Over the course of construction more than 20 Indigenous individuals were employed either directly by the joint venture or through the First Nation bands.
