Buildings Superintendent – Lower Mainland, BC
More DetailsThe Buildings Superintendent leads, directs and coordinates the work of field staff and subcontractors. This site leadership position is responsible for overall Safety, Quality, schedule, cost performance and team development for institutional, commercial, industrial and high-end residential projects.
- Provides safety leadership through implementation of the Jacob Bros Safety Program, monitors the safety performance of field staff and subcontractors and collaborates with Project Manager to maintain all safety documentation
- Leverages expert knowledge of construction and building techniques to train, supervise and mentor craft personnel
- Supervises construction workforce and oversees all on-site construction activities to construct the project effectively, safely and within budget
- Develops and maintains open communication with crews, trades, project team and clients to ensure project performance, safety and quality requirements are in compliance
- Prepares work plans and scheduling to determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements
- Monitors and executes the project construction plan; develops and implements job schedules and three week look ahead schedules
- Leads effective site meetings with craft, trades, project teams and client
- Examines field conditions, corrects inaccuracies and implements cost saving measures

- Demonstrated expert understanding of construction industry and business operations, including cost management processes and reports, construction specifications and methods, contract language, and project planning and schedules
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental procedures and legislation
- Working knowledge of computers and experience using Microsoft Office Suite or internal project controls software and scheduling software
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including night shifts as required

About the Role:
The Project Coordinator reports to the Project Manager and assists with planning, organization and direction of construction projects in the civil discipline.
The successful candidate will have prior work or co-op experience as a Project Coordinator delivering civil construction projects. (Infrastructure, earthworks, utilities, concrete, etc.)
Responsibilities:
- Maintains project document control including daily reports, RFIs, shop drawings, changes, billing and daily labor timesheets
- Assists Superintendent with operational tasks including preparation of work plans and packages, scheduling updates, updating drawings, and supervision of subcontractor operations
- Supervises field operations and plans, schedules and coordinates work on the job site
- Assists with implementing and monitoring Quality and Safety Plans, including participation in job site safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training
- Assists in the preparation of purchase orders, subcontracts and generation of change orders
- Performs basic engineering calculations and assists in interpretations of drawings and specifications for field crews
- Orders, schedules and tracks material deliveries to job site

Estimator (Civil construction) – Surrey, BC

- Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Estimator uses estimating software to perform quantity take offs, cost analysis, sub-trade negotiations, competitive bid management and document control. The Estimator supports full-cycle estimating activities for preparing hard bid, cost plus and design-build estimates.
Responsibilities and Primary Tasks
- Prepares complete estimates for projects (full cycle bid process), including analyzing specifications, proposals, and other documentation.
- Assists in devising potential bid strategies for competitive tender projects, provides technical input regarding project and contract risks.
- Accurately determines scopes of work and conceptual estimates by drawing on experience, reviewing proposal specifications, drawings and attending pre-bid meetings.
- Calculates complete takeoff of scopes of work, including material quantity requirements from engineering drawings based on first principles estimating .
- Assists in review of final estimate to ensure alignment with project schedule and cost goals.
- Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
- Identifies risk issues and the order of magnitude.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of local construction materials and techniques.
- Recommends new approaches and ideas to drive continuous improvement within the Estimating department.
- Related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or combination of relevant experience and education .
- One (1) + years estimating experience in the ICI or civil construction industry.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of first principles estimating methodology.
- Experience preparing estimates for civil construction including earthworks, utilities and structural concrete, and/or all manner of buildings construction including wood frame, steel frame, steel stud, concrete tilt-up, etc.
- Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software or similar, familiarity with CAD and MS Project Suite.
- Demonstrated history of successful bid results in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
- Legally eligible to work for any employer in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Previous estimating experience with a local, mid-tier civil general contractor.
Work Environment
