Arthur Laing Bridge Deck Upgrades
Richmond, BC
Bridge deck and curb repair, elastomeric rubber membrane installation for the Vancouver Airport Authority
The Arthur Laing Bridge located within the shared traditional territories of the Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation spans the Fraser River connecting the City of Vancouver with Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport.
JB Horizons LP, a partnership between C&C Horizon Contracting, a Musqueam member owned company, and Jacob Bros Construction was awarded the project by the Vancouver Airport Authority. The project included all four sections of the bridge and involved inspection of the bridge deck and sidewalk to locate failing sections, concrete removal and replacement, clearing of the median barrier and installation of a rubber seal to prevent future buildup and erosion. To maintain the structural integrity of the bridge all work was staged and performed by hand. To mitigate impacts to Metro Vancouver traffic over this highly used bridge, work was conducted at night with full time traffic control management.
JB Horizons LP has the primary goal of creating employment, training, and career development opportunities for Musqueam Band members.
