Todd Jacob, P. Eng., MBA
After obtaining his civil engineering degree from UBC in 1989, Todd joined Stuart Olson Construction and spent the next eight years working on complex commercial buildings and multi-family residential construction projects.
In 1997, his field experience and technical background led to a position with the Lark Group as Project Manager. Todd helped to expand the Lark Group’s construction capabilities from small commercial projects to larger, more complex undertakings including hotels, shopping centres, medical facilities and restaurants. In 2000, Todd was promoted to Manager of Construction where he became responsible for all aspects of the construction division. His experience at the Lark Group included participation in the development process, managing designers and taking responsibility for preparation of project proforma’s. In addition to mixed-use commercial and residential projects, Todd has overseen the development and construction of seniors’ care facilities, light-industrial warehouses, retail centres, hotels and health care projects.
Todd obtained his MBA in 2003 and continues to use his education as a perspective for constant change within the industry.
Since forming Jacob Bros., Todd has had increased involvement in Public Infrastructure projects including Airport work, Remote Work Camps, Sewage Pump Stations, Water treatment, Recreation Centres, Public Gathering Spaces and Commercial Building Envelope Restoration.
Todd has a hands-on approach and lends his construction and development experience to every project Jacob Bros. undertakes. His collaborative style lends well to building teams to value engineer and plan logistics around the unique attributes of the project and conditions rather than execute a prescribed design. Todd has a passion for detail and a calm deliberate approach to problem solving.
Scott Jacob, A.Sc.T.
Scott has been actively involved in the Western Canada construction industry since 1984. He has established himself as an industry leader through his considerable project experience, focused primarily in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island, with some additional experience throughout B.C., Alberta and Washington State. Scott has been directly involved with the delivery of key infrastructure projects for many public and private clients, and is well regarded for his market knowledge and collaborative project delivery style.
Scott attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology and obtained a diploma in Civil & Structural Technology in 1984. Beginning his career with the BC Ministry of Transportation before moving into heavy civil construction, Scott has worked as both Owner and Contractor. As a result, he has developed a solid knowledge of project management from both a design and construction perspective. His hands-on leadership style was developed throughout his career as he progressed from Surveyor to Project Superintendent, Project Manager and a variety of Management positions. Following a successful 20 year career position with a Vancouver based civil construction company, Scott left his executive in 2008 to join his brothers in the formation of Jacob Bros. Construction (Jacob Bros) – a mid-sized, privately held construction company focused on Civil & Building Construction. Working with his brothers, Scott was able to leverage his industry experience and formidable reputation in the construction industry to help drive the rapid growth of Jacob Bros, and its development into one of British Columbia's most prolific infrastructure companies.
With a reputation for fairness, balanced with hard work and tenacity, Scott balances his time between corporate responbilities and providing support to project teams assigned to the larger and more complex of Jacob Bros’ civil infrastructure projects. With a focus towards staff development and client satisfaction, and through his direct involvement with project execution, he brings his collaborative style to project management and approaches every project with an eye towards achieving mutual success. Scott has a solid belief that a successful project for the Contractor is a successful project for the Client. This commitment to “win-win” situations for the client and contractor has followed Scott throughout his career and has become a trademark of his diverse portfolio of projects.
As a prominent figure in the local construction industry for more than 30 years, Scott has always played an active role in Industry Associations as a means of staying current with the Industry and as a means of giving back to the Industry. He has held roles on the boards of British Columbia Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association, Independent Contractors & Business Association, Construction Association of Victoria, and the Master Municipal Contracts Association, as well as the Island Equipment Owners Association. This industry commitment has served both Scott and Jacob Bros. Construction well, and will continue to be a priority moving forward.
Scott was raised in a construction family on Vancouver Island, and has balanced his working career between Victoria and the Lower Mainland. Today Scott resides in Surrey with his family, where he is actively involved in the community and he remains active with endurance sports as a pastime.
Jason was born into a blue-collar construction family, but developed an entrepreneurial spirit at an early age. While not a stranger to hard work, Jason showed a propensity for dreaming big and for finding a better way to accomplish the task at hand – without being constrained by conventional thinking. Fueled by a passion for travel and a zest for adventure, Jason has always been willing to push limits and risk failure in the pursuit of excellence in all of his endeavors. This combination of attributes resulted in early acclamation for Jason as he was recognized with the very prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award in his youth, and through his success in the early years of his professional career.
After graduating high school, Jason began his career in the construction industry, gaining valuable hands-on skill and experience while working for major general contractors in the Lower Mainland’s Heavy Civil construction industry. The years spent working in this capacity provided Jason with invaluable first-hand experience, and a direct understanding of the conventional traditions of how the work was actually performed by the crew and equipment. Jason gained a valuable perspective on how the craft labour and trades people performing the work were either limited or empowered by the decisions made by those in supervisory or managerial positions. This experience would forever shape Jason’s perspective on the value of tools and equipment, loyalty, the power of relationships, and on how to inspire a workforce. These perspectives would ultimately form the basis of his first business endeavour.
Following several years away from the construction industry while travelling and working internationally, and after gaining further business and life experience, Jason returned to the construction industry and founded Kato Construction Ltd. in 1992. A sole proprietorship that serviced many of the large contractors in the Roadbuilding and Heavy Civil construction industry, Kato Construction specialized in providing construction services on many public and private construction projects in the Lower Mainland and on southern Vancouver Island. With Jason’s appetite for work, his aggressive style, and a willingness to take appropriate risks, Kato Construction experienced rapid growth and considerable early success. Competitive pricing and accelerated project delivery quickly became cornerstones of Kato Construction. With a well-established foundation and a tried and proven formula for success, Kato Construction gained widespread respect in the industry as a lean and efficient model for the delivery of Heavy Civil construction services. Project size, scope, and complexity increased for a period of almost 16 years with Jason continuing to work as a sole proprietor.
Ready for the next step in his professional career, Jason was instrumental in the formation of Jacob Bros Construction when he joined forces with his brothers in 2008. Using the reputation and resources of Kato Construction as the launch point, Jason and his brothers were able to quickly build Jacob Bros into one of British Columbia’s most successful General Contractors. Jason’s in-depth field experience, business acumen, unending loyalty and commitment to the workforce are vital aspects in the daily operation of Jacob Bros. Splitting his time between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, Jason continues to have direct involvement with many of the large civil projects, and plays a key role in the ownership and management of the Company. Jason is directly responsible for the assembly and ongoing maintenance of Jacob Bros’ large modern fleet of heavy equipment, and his passion for people, equipment and for construction remain his hallmark. While never one for accolades or the spotlight, Jason was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award together with his brothers in 2016.
Jason resides in Victoria with his wife and two children, where he is active in the community. Jason continues with his passion for world travel, and now focuses on sharing that passion for adventure and challenge with his daughters.
